A Community Service Hub Model for Edmonton's Homeless Community

Implementing a Community Service Hub model, and funding permanent day spaces,

"will save lives...increase access to broader systems of care, and fulfill basic rights that are fundamental to human dignity and wellbeing," is the message ECOHH Co-Chair Nazret Russon delivered to members of the Community and Public Services Committee on June 8.

ECOHH strongly feels that implementing a Community Service Hub model is the best option for five reasons:

1. Addressing social service fragmentation

2. Reducing risks to health and wellbeing

3. Resolving homelessness

4. Promoting inclusion, community and recovery

5. Upholding human rights.

The National Housing Council’s Review Panel on the Lack of Accessible Housing in Canada

"People living with disabilities in Edmonton face numerous barriers when it comes

to adequate housing...these barriers prevent the realization of the right to housing for thousands of

people with disabilities in Edmonton. Some individuals have experienced

homelessness as a result. Many have experienced a loss of dignity and their

quality of life and wellbeing has been negatively impacted over the course of their

lives."

Featuring in-depth original research and analysis, ECOHH's submission to the National Housing Council's Review Panel on the Lack of Accessible Housing in Canada provides statistical support and specific recommendations for ensuring that accessible housing be given a higher priority in government funding.
